We like to consider our knives “functional works of art”. Each knife created is an original; no two will ever be exactly alike. We select only premium material for our knives. The steels we use must have just the right combination of hardness, flexibility, edge holding, and ease of sharpening characteristics necessary for a high quality knife.
Our preferred steels are carbon and carbon alloys such as: 5160, 52100, 1075, 1095, and O1. If a customer must have a knife in stainless steel we can accommodate that need. We frequently test the blades for edge holding ability and toughness. As for the knife scales (synonyms: slabs, handles, grips), we use natural materials, meaning wood or bone, synthetics, and we also create our own polyester resin composite scales.
NEW: We are now offering a three day knife making class. On day one of the class the student begins with 1095 carbon steel bar stock, and at the end of day three he/she finishes with two knives. Some of the topics covered include: basic metallurgy, heat treating, profiling, flat grinding, and finish work. The class is limited to two students per cycle.
